Verify a single email

Updated Oct 20262 min read

Use a single check when you have one address to test: before you send an important email, when a sign-up looks suspicious, or to see how a domain handles mail before you verify a whole list.

Run a check

  1. Open Email verifier → Single check.
  2. Type or paste the address, for example name@company.com.
  3. Press Verify or hit Enter.

Most checks finish in a few seconds. The address must be a normal Latin-character address (local@domain.tld); anything else is rejected before a check runs, at no cost.

Read the result

The coloured banner at the top shows the status: Deliverable, Invalid, Catch-All or Risky. What each result means explains each one and what to do with it.

Below the banner are four checks: Syntax valid, Disposable domain, Role-based address and SMTP mailbox.

The domain intelligence panel

Under the checks, the Domain intelligence panel describes the address's domain:

FieldWhat it tells you
MX providerWho receives mail for the domain, as published in its DNS.
GatewayA security filter in front of the mailboxes, if one is detected.
Real provider (via SPF/DKIM)Who actually hosts the mailboxes, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, when a gateway hides it.
Catch-all domainWhether the domain accepts mail for any address.
Deliverability IndexHigh, Moderate, Low or Very Low. See The deliverability index.
SPF and DMARCThe domain's email authentication records, shown in full.

Sometimes a short Diagnosis line explains the result in plain words.

At the bottom, Email pattern shows how the company formats its addresses, when we know it. If we don't yet, press Search email pattern (15, charged only when a pattern is found). See Look up a domain's email pattern.

Catch-all results

If the result is Catch-All, the banner offers Resolve catch-all. It runs a deeper check on that one mailbox and replaces the result with Deliverable/Catch-All or Invalid/Catch-All. It costs 5, only when it gets a definite answer. You need at least 5 credits available to start it. See Resolve catch-all addresses.

When an address comes from your history, the banner shows a Free tag; hover it to see when it was last checked. The Re-check button appears next to it.

Tip

Checking more than a handful of addresses? Upload them as a file instead: see Verify a list. You can also verify from the API, Clay or Claude.
