Not everyone who posts about your topic is someone you sell to. Recruiters, students, vendors and consultants post about everything. ICP matches only keeps them out of your list by checking each person against the monitor's ICP before they're saved.
Turn it on
Under Save people to a list, tick ICP matches only. It's there:
- in Watch for new results when you create a keyword monitor,
- in a monitor's Signal & capture settings,
- in Watch post engagement when you start a post watcher from a monitor's post.
The option shows only when the monitor judges posts for a specific ICP (Flag posts that matter for set to an ICP, not your whole company). See Set up a signals monitor.
Who it applies to
Everyone the monitor saves: authors, and commenters and likers when they're turned on.
How the match works
Each person is judged from their LinkedIn headline against the ICP's person and company. It's the same quick read as Author matches ICP on a signal. See ICP match on post authors.
A headline is short, so this is a first filter, not a full check:
- Someone with a clear headline like Head of Operations at a dental group is easy to judge.
- Someone with a vague headline like Helping teams grow may be left out even if they'd fit.
For the full check, score the list against the ICP afterwards. See Score leads against your ICP.
Why it saves credits
Commenters and likers are charged per person found. With ICP matches only, people whose headline doesn't match aren't saved, so you pay for fewer people and the same monthly limit covers more posts. The monthly estimate takes this into account. See Read the monthly estimate.
When to leave it off
- Your ICP's Person Fit is broad, or describes something a headline rarely shows.
- You want to see everyone first and decide by scoring.
- The topic is niche enough that almost everyone engaging is relevant.
Pair it with author titles
Author titles in a monitor's filters work earlier: posts whose author doesn't have one of the titles aren't judged as signals at all. ICP matches only works later, on the people being saved. Use author titles for hard rules (Founder, CEO) and ICP matches only for the judgement call. See Look back, exclude words and author titles.
If you change the ICP, the new version is used for people saved from then on. People already in the list stay.
