An exclusion list holds the companies and contacts you never want in a new list: current customers, open deals, competitors, partners, people who asked not to be contacted. Upload it once, and matching leads and companies are left out of your captures, searches, email finding, scoring and exports.
Exclusion lists are free on every plan.
Prepare the file
| File types | CSV, TXT, Excel (XLSX, XLSM) |
| Size | Up to 200 MB |
| Sheets | Every sheet in an Excel file is read |
| Columns used | Any column with domains, websites, emails or LinkedIn URLs, and a column headed like "Company Name" |
You don't need a template or a fixed layout. A CRM export usually works as it is.
- Domains and websites:
acme.com,https://www.acme.com/aboutandnews.acme.comall count asacme.com. - Emails: each address is excluded, and its company domain too, unless it's a free mail address like gmail.com.
- LinkedIn URLs: company pages and personal profiles.
- Company names: from a column headed like "Company Name".
Upload it
- Open Settings and scroll to Exclusion lists.
- Under Upload a list, press Choose file and pick the file.
- Give the list a name, for example Existing customers. If you leave it empty, the file name is used.
- Press Upload.
The file is read in the background: Reading the file: N rows so far. Large files take a few minutes. You can leave the page.
When it's ready
The list shows what it found: Domains, Names, Emails, LinkedIn and Rows read. If some rows had no domain, email, company name or LinkedIn URL, it says how many were skipped.
A new list is switched On as soon as it's ready. From then on:
- captures don't save matching leads or companies,
- leads and companies already in your lists that match are marked Excluded, and are skipped by email finding, scoring and exports.
Several lists
Upload as many lists as you need, for example one for customers, one for competitors and one for do-not-contact requests. Every list that's on applies to all your work. Keeping them separate lets you turn one off without touching the others. See Turn a list on or off.
Updating a list
To refresh a list, upload the new file as a new list, check it, then delete the old one.
Private to you
Values are stored encrypted, and only you can see your lists. They're never used for anyone else's searches. Deleting a list deletes its values.
Upload your customers before your first big capture. Then the people you already work with never land in a prospect list, and no credits go on finding their emails or scoring them.
